CONSTITUTION |
Article I - Name
The name of this non-profit association shall be the "Samahang Pilipino ng Oakland."
Article II - Purposes
- To work for the welfare of all Filipino-American citizens in the Oakland County area.
- To promote public awareness of Filipino-American citizens of all ages, interests and abilities.
- To enable members to speak with a common voice on matters pertaining to issues and to present their individual and common interests before concerned parties as provided by law.
- To encourage members to exercise their rights and privileges as citizens.
- To unify and strengthen the Filipino ethnicity and to reduce barriers caused by regionalism and isolation.
Article III - Membership and Dues
Section 1 Membership
- Membership shall be open to all Filipinos, Filipino-American citizens and Americans who support the well-being of the Filipino American people in the community.
- Unmarried, dependent children of paid members are considered members of the association.
- Member are encouraged to attend at least 1 function, event or meeting of the association per year.
Section 2 Dues
- Annual dues shall be voted upon by the Executive Board at the first meeting of the new fiscal year.

- Annual dues shall be paid to the current calendar year, from January 1st to December 31st.
- Payment of annual dues shall be required of every member to enable him/her to vote for a candidate or to run for office.
Article IV - Officers
- The elected officers of this association shall be the president, 2 vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, 2 sergeant-at-arms and auditor.
- All past presidents are ex-officio members of the Executive Board and shall act as advisors.
- The terms of all officers shall be for two years beginning January 1.
- Standing and ad-hoc committees shall be appointed by the president and approved by the Executive Board.
- The social directors shall be appointed by the President with the recommendation of the Executive Board.
- The officers shall perform the usual duties of such offices and other such duties as specified in the By-Laws.
Article V - Executive Board
- The Executive Board shall consist of the officers of the association. The standing committee chairpersons and past presidents shall be ex-officio members without vote.
- The Executive Board shall be responsible for the conduct and approval of all activities recommended by the members.
Article VI - Standing Committees
There shall be Standing Committees in the association and shall work for the purposes as stated in the By-Laws or as charged by the members.
Article VII - Meetings
- The Association shall conduct a minimum of one general membership meeting during each calendar year.
- Other meetings may be scheduled or called upon at the direction of the president, the Executive Board, or by a request of paid members.
Article VIII - Rules for Ammending the Constitution
- An amendment to this Constitution may be introduced by a member at any meeting of the Executive Board or general membership.
- A copy of the proposed amendment with the recommendation of the Executive Board, shall be given to the members, after which it shall be submitted to a vote at the next general meeting. A two-thirds majority of those voting is necessary for adoption.
- A review of the Constitution for possible amendments shall be conducted every five years.
